After visiting the Basilica and hearing the story of Little Flower from the tour guide, I have a better understanding of her. The first half of the book seemed, at least to me, like she was nothing but an angel when she was alive. Yet, in chapter 10, she recalls feeling insignificant and that she often felt great jealousy and frustration towards her sisters in the church. Hearing this made me remember that she was just as human as me, hence making me feel more appreciative. What’s more, the ending of the book was very much a bittersweet end. It is a little sad to know she died so young, yet it is a comfort that she emphasizes she was ready. She carried a great love and humility, which made her story all the more important in terms of understanding proper humanity. Her appreciation for the complexities of humanity knows no end and is something that I wish to follow.
